The 106th edition of the Indian Science Congress (ISC) started off today at Punjab. PM Narendra Modi had much to say on science and technology in India at the inaugural speech.

The 106th edition of the Indian Science Congress (ISC) started off today at Lovely Professional University in Phagwara, Punjab, and the inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi saw the attendance of 20,000 scientists from 60 countries across the world.

“I’m happy to inaugurate the 106th session of the ISC. It is a pleasure to be in the company of eminent scientists, scholars and students,” said Modi.

The theme for ISC-2019 is ‘Future India – Science and Technology’.

“We are probably enjoying the “Golden period” in Indian science (under Modi’s guidance)….With all that’s happening in the different areas of science today, we are comparable to the best in the world,” said Union Minister of Science and Technology Dr Harsh Vardhan.

Who are present at the Indian Science Congress 2019?

Apart from the Nobel Prize winners, Union Cabinet ministers — including Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan and Textile Minister Smriti Irani — will also attend the event.

Eminent scientists from Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Department of Science and Technology, University Grants Commission and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) are also slated to take part in the science congress.
