Bhumi Pednekar, who made her debut with Ayushmann Khurrana in Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015) has been gaining popularity among her fans with every character she plays on screen.
Bhumi has been hogging the limelight since her major body transformation after her first film. Now, the actress is preparing much harder for her role in upcoming film Sonchiriya.
Also starring Sushant Singh Rajput in the lead role, the dacoit drama revolves around a small town, which is dominated by rebels who are in the era of dacoits. Set in 1970s, the film has been shot in the valleys of Madhya Pradesh.
The actors have gone completely de-glam for the roles of rebels and are completely in the skin of their characters.
Bhumi, who is known to play every character with perfection, has found a new way to shed her sweat leaving behind the regular gym sessions.
In a new video shared on her Instagram, Bhumi can be seen grinding wheat in a rustic chakki. She captioned it as ”Chakki fresh fitness.”
”Who needs the gym, when we got the chakki?” said the photo.
The actress recently spilled the beans on the highlights of her preparation for Sonchiriya.
In a statement, Bhumi said, ”It was a like a month and a half before we started shooting. So, I would walk around with 5-6 litres of water on my head in Aaram Nagar for kilometers without any shoes because we were trying to also get rough and tough. But then your body gets used to it.”
”I remember I would carry 10-15 kgs of a wheat sack on my back and again walk and run because there is a lot of running in the film. I would grind like a kg of wheat/aata everyday and it looks very easy but it is so tough and very difficult,” Shubh Mangal Savdhaan actress shared.
The Dum Laga Ke Haisha actress also revealed that the physicality of her character was the first concern of the director Abhishek Chaubey.
She said, ”He really went to the details of it and he literally told me that the women of Chambal are carb eating women. They are muscular but they are lean and they are fit because the amount of work they do through the day they walk kilometers, go get water, they have to pick up 8-10 litres of water on their head with a child in their arm and walk back.”
”Every time they want to go to the bathroom they have to walk. Through the day they are working at home or at the fields. They don’t really have any rest and I planned my workout around what he told me,” added Bhumi.
On the work front, Bhumi Pednekar has three other big films in her kitty which are Kartik Aaryan’s Pati Patni Aur Woh, Karan Johar’s period drama Takht and Anurag Kashyap’s production Saand Ki Aankh.
Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, the film also stars Manoj Bajpayee, Ranvir Shorey and Ashutosh Rana in the lead roles. Sonchiriya is scheduled to hit the theatres on March 1.
